Dear Kingston,
Please re-elect Tom Hoffay for Alderman of Ward 2. As a resident of Uptown Kingston, I too have been repeatedly frustrated by the recent construction on Wall and North Front streets. However, having lived here for a number of years, I can say, despite some minor gripes, that this was a necessary improvement. Not only was it an eventuality making opportune use of available funds, it has brought a timely awareness of the Uptown business district to the Hudson Valley. Many of my fellow Bard College students have come and spent money, attracted by the investment and other events facilitated with the cooperation and effort of Mr. Hoffay. The local consciousness of Uptown has expanded across the river, to Hudson and down to Westchester County. Despite the inconveniences, these renovations were likely integral to the future prosperity of Uptown. In response to business owner gripes, I as a consumer, like the overhang and would’ve been aghast had they been removed. All of my area peers view it as a unique attraction to the district. Talk about throwing the baby out with the bathwater! Also, Tom saved garbage removal! Imagine Kingston without it! Good Lord. I know Tom personally and can vouch for his intellect, honor, and love of Kingston. Please-as the rest of the country struggles, give our humble ward a chance- vote for Tom Hoffay.
Sincerely,
Lucas Denton

Tom was also against the CVS on Washington Avenue, which at least is one place where Kingston appears in a positive light when people first drive in. Sottile removed garbage from nonprofits and thus far Gallo hasn’t done a thing to restore it and what has Tom done on this thus far? I don’t HAVE to “imagine Kingston without it”–there are parts that ARE without it!! Finally, I grew up in uptown Kingston and think the Pike Plan should have hit the pike–the turnpike–years ago. You could actually park on the street in those days Uptown without having to navigate around the islands that jut out. People weren’t hanging around smoking on the streets back then, and it was nice to walk the streets Uptown back then. People walked and actually went somewhere. Now you have “loitering.” But the Pike Plan would call that “enjoying the scenery”. Hanging out and smoking on the benches and under the overhang. Tom is now the majority leader, having replaced Reynolds Wrap. Let’s see what he does but let’s not hold our breath.

I think the CVS is a travesty. We need real jobs in Kingston, no part-time, low-paying menial jobs that only serve the community with useless legal narcotics. When I see a CVS I see long-standing, local businesses being choked out of existence by corrupt, desperate officials who care nothing for citizens and our way of life.
